Summary
One in this series on the performing arts. This program -- one in a series of live broadcasts from the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City -- is a celebration of Lucianno Pavarotti and other opera singers. With Anton Guadagno conducting the New York City Opera Orchestra, they perform Pucinni's "Recondita armonia" from Act I of "Tosca," "Vissi d'arte" from Act II of "Tosca," and the entire Act III from "Tosca." During the intermission, pretaped segments show Harolyn Blackwell's life in and around her Caribbean and Harlem homes; Leona Mitchell discussing topics such as growing up in Oklahoma and learning Italian for the opera; Leo Nucci being mentored by Pavarotti; and Carol Vaness discussing her passion for Italy and food. After a short pause, the singers perform Verdi's "Di tu se fedele" from "Un Ballo in Maschera" and Act III, Scene 2 of "Un Ballo in Maschera." As encores they perform Puccini's "Tra voi, bella" and "Donna non vidimai" from "Manon Lescaut," Di Capua's "O Sole Mia," and De Curtis's "Torna a Surriento."
