PREMIO LO NUESTRO A LA MUSICA LATINA 1993 {'LO NUESTRO' LATIN MUSIC AWARDS} {SPANISH} (TV)

Summary

The fifth edition (1993) of this yearly music awards presentation program which honors Latin music achievements in the United States. This year's program, presented by Univisi—n and Billboard Magazine live from the James L. Knight Center in Miami and hosted by comedian Paul Rodríguez, gives awards in the categories of Pop/Ballad, Tropical/Salsa, Regional/Mexican, and Rap. Additional awards include the program's award for excellence in recognition of the artist's contribution to Latin music in the United States and the best video award. The program opens with a medley of songs performed by Gloria Trevi. The host Paul Rodríguez welcomes television viewers in the United States as well as the 18 Latin American countries and Spain who are watching the program via satellite. The award presentations and performances in this segment include the following: Paulina Rubio and Luis Enrique present the first award to Selena for best female artist, Regional/Mexican; the group Los Temerarios presents the award for best album, Tropical/Salsa, to Jerry Rivera, for "Cuenta conmigo"; La Mafia performs "Me estoy enamorando"; Olga Tañón and El General present the award for best group, Pop/Ballad, to Pandora; Alvaro Torres and Selena present the next two awards, for best new artist, Pop/Ballad, to Jon Secada, who accepts the award live from Disneyland in California, and for best group, Regional Mexican, to La Mafia; Jerry Rivera performs "Cuenta conmigo"; the band La Mafia presents the award for best artist, Rap, to El General; the host presents the first five nominees in the music video category and announces the celebration of Cuban independence day; Alvaro Torres performs "Nada se compara a ti"; India and Emilio Navaira present the award for best male artist, Tropical/Salsa, to Jerry Rivera; Gilberto Santa Rosa presents the next two awards, for best album, Pop/Ballad, to Jon Secada, for "Jon Secada" (who again accepts from Disneyland), and for best new artist, Regional/Mexican, to Banda Machos; the band Café Tacuba performs "María"; Ruben DJ and Victor Victor give the award for best group, Tropical/Salsa, to Juan Luis Guerra y 4.40; El General performs an unidentified song; and Ana Gabriel presents the award for best male artist, Regional/Mexican, to Vicente Fernández (not present).

Los Temerarios perform (song unidentified); Café Tacuba presents the award for best female artist, Pop/Ballad, to Ana Gabriel; the award for musical excellence is presented by Univision president Ray Rodríguez and Billboard editor Timothy White to Armando Manzanero, in honor of his musical achievements and inspiration to Latin American artists, and Juan Pablo Manzanero performs a medley of his father's songs; the awards continue with Banda Machos presenting the award for best new artist, Tropical/Salsa, to Rey Ruiz; Angela Carrasco performs (song unidentified); the band Bachata Magic presents the award for best album, Regional/Mexican, which is a tie between La Mafia for "Estas Tocando Fuego" and Selena for "Entre a mi mundo"; Kid Power Posse presents the award for best female artist, Tropical/Salsa, to Angela Carrasco; the remaining five nominees for the music video award are presented; Banda Machos performs (song unidentified); Jerry Rivera and Angela Carrasco present the award for best song, Regional/Mexican, for "Como la flor," performed by Selena, composed by A. B. Quintanilla III and Pedro Astudillo, and produced by A. B. Quintanilla III; Frankie Ruiz performs "Bailando"; Mazz presents the award for best song, Tropical/Salsa, to "El costo de la vida," performed by Juan Luis Guerra y 4.40, composed by Juan Luis Guerra and Diblo Dibala (Kimla Eve), and produced by Juan Luis Guerra; Rey Ruiz and José Augusto present the award for best male artist, Pop/Ballad, to Jon Secada, who accepts the award live from Disneyland in California; and Selena performs "Como la flor."

Rodríguez introduces the presentations and performances in this segment, which include the following: the award for best music video is given to Mecano for "Una rosa es una rosa," produced by Michael Georgeham. Gilberto Santa Rosa performs a medley of songs; Ana Gabriel performs "Evidencias"; Juan Luis Guerra presents the award for best song, Pop/Ballad, to "No Sé Tú," performed by Luis Miguel, composed by Armando Manzanero, and produced by Armando Manzanero and Luis Miguel, and Luis Miguel accepts the award via live video feed from Puerto Rico. This award marks the end of the program. Commercials deleted.
