
PREMIO LO NUESTRO A LA MUSICA LATINA 1995 {'LO NUESTRO' LATIN MUSIC AWARDS} {SPANISH WITHOUT ENGLISH SUBTITLES} (TV)
Summary
The seventh edition (1995) of this yearly music awards presentation program which honors Latin music achievements in the United States. This year's program, broadcast live from the James L. Knight Convention Center in Miami and hosted by comedian Paul Rodriguez, gives awards in the categories of Pop/Ballad, Tropical/Salsa, and Regional Mexican, as well as an award for best music video and an excellence award that recognizes outstanding contributions to Latin music over the years. The program opens with the host Paul Rodríguez announcing the categories and the different artists who will be appearing throughout the evening. He also welcomes the different stations broadcasting the program in 18 different countries across the world. Presentations and performances in this segment include the following: the first award, for best male artist, Pop/Ballad, is presented by Thalía to Luis Miguel; the host announces that the awards are certified by Michael Stein of the auditing firm Arthur Andersen; La Mafia performs "Me duele estar solo"; Hector Soberon and Claudia Ramírez present the award for best new artist, Tropical/Salsa, to Giro; the group Sparks performs (song unidentified); Jerry Rivera and Chabeli Iglesias present the award for best male artist, Regional/Mexican, to Alejandro Fernández; Lorena Herrera, and Sofía Vergara present the award for best album, Tropical/Salsa, to Olga Tañón for "Siento el amor"; the band El Grupo Niche performs "Un alto en el camino"; Carlos Ponce and Lucía Muñoz present the first five nominees for the best music video award; Laura Pausini and Rodrigo Vidal present the award for best group, Regional/Mexican, to Marco Antonio Solís y Los Bukis (not present); Carlos Bombilla and Ernesto Laguardia present the award for best female artist, Tropical/Salsa, to Olga Tañón; María Celeste Ararás and Myrka de Llanos-Loynaz present the award for best new artist, Pop/Ballad, to Laura Pausini; Olga Tañón performs "Es Mentiroso"; Ariel and Mariana Levy present the award for best male artist, Tropical/Salsa to Carlos Vives.
Thalía, accompanied by Emilio Estefan, presents the award for musical excellence to Julio Iglesias and shows a video with footage of his performances and interviews with producer Ramon Arcusa, Tomás Muñoz from Sony Discos, presenter Raœl Velasco, composer Manuel Alejandro, Julio's sons Enrique Iglesias and Julio José, his daughter Chabeli, singer Willie Nelson, bullfighter Manuel Benítez "El Cordobés," and his father Dr. Julio Iglesias Puga. The Mariachi Cobre performs on stage a medley of his songs to celebrate his music. Additional presentations and performances in this segment include the following: Valeria Melo Pérez, Wichy Camacho, and India present the last five nominees for the best music video award; Los Fugitivos perform "La loca"; Rey Ruiz and José Javier Solís present the award for best female artist, Pop/Ballad, to Selena (her father Abraham Quintanilla, sister Suzette Quintanilla, and spouse Chris Perez accept the award in the slain singer's name); Alvaro Torres and Barrio Boyzz perform "Reencuentro"; Cecilia Boloco and Chantal Andere present the award for best song, Regional/Mexican, to Selena for "Amor prohibido," composed by A. B. Quintanilla III and Pete Astudillo, and produced by A. B. Quintanilla III and Producciones Q; Don Francisco and Emilio Estefan present the award for best album, Pop/Ballad, to Luis Miguel, for "Segundo romance"; Ana Bárbara performs "Todo lo aprendí de ti"; Myriam Hernández and Arturo Peniche present the award for best album, Regional/Mexican, to Selena, for "Amor prohibido."
Sonia Smith and Jorge Salinas presenting the award for best group, Tropical/Salsa, to Grupo Niche; Maná performs "Te lloré todo un río"; Marcos Yunas and Jerry Rivera present the award for best female artist, Regional/Mexican, to Selena (father Abraham Quintanilla accepts the award, flanked by Selena's sister Suzette Quintanilla, spouse Chris Perez, and band members including Pete Astudillo); Kiara and Ricardo Castillón present the award for best group, Pop/Ballad, to La Mafia; Gaby Rivero and Giro present the award for best new artist, Regional/Mexican, to Ezequiel Peña; Gloria Calzada presents the award for best song, Tropical/Salsa, to Carlos Vives, for "La gota fría," composed by Emiliano Zuleta and produced by Eduardo de Narváez; Pizzi, Antonella Palazio and Francisco Paz, from the program "Onda Max," present the award for best music video to Luis Miguel for "La media vuelta," directed by Pedro Torres; Thalía presents the award for best song, Pop/Ballad, to Juan Gabriel for "Pero qué necesidad," composed by Juan Gabriel, and produced by Juan Gabriel and Gustavo Farias; and Vikki Carr presents a tribute to slain Tejana singer Selena (the Barrio Boyzz sing a Spanish version of "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" while video images are shown of Selena).
