NINE, THE: HEROES WELCOME (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series about nine strangers forever linked by a bank robbery/hostage situation gone wrong. This episode begins during hour one of the hostage situation, at 3:06 p.m., with Lucas and Randall taking Nick's gun and everyone's cell phones. Then, they tell Malcolm to take them to the vault. Meanwhile, Felicia hides in the men's room. Eleven days later, in the present, Felicia goes to the prison to speak with Lucas, who isn't surprised to see her. Felicia wonders if he has a good lawyer before Lucas becomes angered that she showed up. Meanwhile, the other seven survivors finish their get-together at the diner. Lizzie has yet to tell Jeremy about her pregnancy, while wondering if he arrived at the diner with Franny. Kathryn talks to Nick about the police department wanting to make him their "mascot" but Nick still feels guilty about his gun having killed Eva. The next day, on an L.A. morning show, the "unlikely hero" Egan makes an appearance where the hosts question him on how the standoff began. At Harding High School, Malcolm drops Felicia off, curious if she can handle a return to class. Jeremy and Lizzie ask each other if they've yet visited the floor of the hospital that Randall is on. Also, while on TV, Egan makes a plea for donations to help out Eva's son, Ricky. Nick is told by Pete that if he gives a canned speech at City Hall he will receive his medal and promotion, but Nick quits the force instead. Afterward, Nick calls Kathryn, wondering what to do. At the bank, Malcolm notices Franny outside, unable to enter the building. She claims she will probably never be able to go back to work. Kathryn gets a call from Los Angeles Times reporter Monica Turner, who wants to know if a tip she heard about Nick's behavior inside the bank is true. Kathryn hangs up and decides to join Nick's cause. At the jail, Lucas's lawyer explains why they need to hope Randall stays alive. At school, Felicia researches 911. Egan proposes some new ideas at work, exciting his co-workers. Elsewhere, Jeremy has trouble concentrating in the operating room during a heart transplant. Later, Kathryn and Nick go to speak with Monica, offering their side of the story. However, the district attorney's office is less than pleased with Kathryn helping out Nick. Nick is forced to explain to Kathryn that he has a gambling problem, not to mention a bitter ex-wife. Later, Malcolm talks to Naomi about his trouble in finding new tellers, before she tells her husband he can talk things over with her if he wishes. Meanwhile, Felicia attends a therapy session, angered that people don't believe she truly lost her memory. Nick meets again with Pete, who wonders what the former cop has to "prove" and why he wants to be a crusader. When Nick refuses to cooperate, Pete details information he has about Franny and Egan in an attempt to blackmail him. Back at his office, Egan finally steps up, calling his boss, Brian, a "bully." Brian then fires Egan, who feels liberated. Later, Nick visits Franny, where he hears a phone message from Eva's ex-husband and Ricky's father. Felicia tries to visit Lucas again but he refuses to grant her access. When Felicia gets her cell phone back from the guards, she recalls calling 911 during the heist, bringing on a flood of memories. Nick speaks at City Hall and begrudgingly accepts his medal, refusing to tell Kathryn why he changed his mind. Finally, the heart transplant patient dies unexpectedly, prompting Jeremy to embark on a shocking course of action. Includes commercials.
