SIMPSONS, THE: SPRINGFIELD UP (TV)
Summary
One in this animated comedy series about the Simpsons -- Homer and Marge and their children, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. In this episode, a spoof on Michael Apted's "Up" documentaries, filmmaker Declan Desmond presents his latest edition of "Growing Up Springfield," a series wherein he visits Springfield residents every eight years and records their circumstances. The documentary film begins by showing clips from "Growing Up Springfield"'s first edition, at which point the subjects were eight years old. Then, Desmond shows clips from subsequent editions, leading to the present. The first person examined is Clancy Wiggum, who as a youth dreamed of rising in the law enforcement world. Then, Homer Simpson, whose grandiose dreams of wealth never seemed to occur, despite his diverse attempts at success. Shockingly enough, the "40 Up" edition showcases Homer as a millionaire. Desmond examines what occurred in the previous eight years that allowed for Homer's change of fortune. Also examined in the "Up" series are: nerdy scientist John Frink; Eleanor Abernathy, the "crazy cat lady"; and budding photographer Marge Simpson. Eventually, Homer's rise to success is exposed as a ruse and his current life examined anew. Commercials deleted.
