AMOS 'N ANDY SHOW, THE: RARE COIN (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about Amos Jones and Andy Brown, two outlandish African-American stereotypes.

In this episode, Andy has found a nickel from the year 1877 and written a coin dealer, John Wilton, a letter asking its worth. Wilton sends a response in which he offers $250 for the coin. The letter is intercepted by Kingfish, who decides that he is going to get the coin away from Andy and collect the money for himself. He ingeniously succeeds in his mission, but accidentally uses the rare nickel to make a call to Wilton. The swindler uses his charm to get Andy to agree to break into the telephone coin box and retrieve the nickel. Unfortunately, the two friends are caught by a plainsclothesman and brought to court where they attempt to explain their actions. In the end, Andy repays Kingfish for his selfish deeds. Also, at the beginning of the show, Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll introduce the cast of "Amos 'N' Andy" to the audience. Alvin Childress is not present.
