JACKIE GLEASON SHOW, THE {THE HONEYMOONERS: THE ADOPTION} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy/variety series featuring Jackie Gleason. This program includes "The Honeymooners," a series of sketches about Ralph Kramden, a blustery bus driver, his long-suffering but understanding wife, Alice, and their neighbors, Ed and Trixie Norton. The program begins with a performance by The June Taylor Dancers entitled, "Another Opening, Another Show," followed by Gleason's opening monologue. In this sketch of "The Honeymooners," Ralph and Alice want to adopt a baby, and Ralph has his heart set on a son. After receiving a long-awaited call from the adoption agency, Ralph dreams about all the things that he will do for a son. However, the initial excitement dims when Ralph and Alice learn that the adoption agency is sending over a representative to look at their apartment and to evaluate their suitability as parents. Depressed by their dingy apartment, Ralph becomes determined to convince the agency to give them a baby, so he fixes up the apartment with borrowed furniture to fool the woman from the agency, Miss Lawrence. At the conclusion of the program, Gleason announces that Art Carney and Audrey Meadows recently won Emmys for their roles in "The Honeymooners." Includes commercials.

(Series title varies; "The Jackie Gleason Show" from 1952-1961 and 1966-1970; "Jackie Gleason and His American Scene Magazine" from 1962-1966. "The Honeymooners" spin-off replaced the variety series 1955-1956.)
