History

1975 An organization is founded by William S. Paley to collect, preserve, and interpret television and radio programming and to make these programs available to the public. Mr. Paley serves as its first chairman. November 9, 1976 The Museum of Broadcasting opens to the public on three floors of a converted office building at 1 East 53 Street in New York City, with 718 publicly available broadcasts in the collection. It is the first public institution to offer this history of broadcasting to the general public. More

< PALEYEDUCATION : Onsite/Online ClassesGrades 4–7Class DescriptionAnimation means to bring something to life; to make something inanimate (a drawing, a figurine, etc. ) move as it would in the real world (or oftentimes a fantasy world). While there are many different styles of animation, there are important commonalities in the process. This class helps students understand how animated cartoons are created step-by-step through watching a series of clips before creating their own flip books. All classes are interactive, with guided discussion designed to encourage active observation and critical thinking. More

Paley Celebrates PRIDE On Monday, June 15, 2020, the Supreme Court handed down a landmark ruling prohibiting discrimination in the workplace on the basis of sexual orientation and gender. At the Paley Center we applaud this ruling and continue to stand in solidarity with members of the LGBTQ+ community, and all people seeking equality.
