In January 2010, Kamal Bherwani was appointed as chief digital officer and managing director at Grupo PRISA. Wolfgang Blau is the editor in chief of Zeit Online, the digital sister publication of Germany's leading weekly newspaper Die ZeitWolfgang graduated from the University of Saarbrücken, Germany, and while studying became a radio news anchor for Germany’s National Public Broadcasting Corporation and a station voice for Germany's national television ARD. He received his formal journalism training at BLR Radiodienst in Munich, Europe's largest syndicator for live radio news where he later became a managing editor. From 1999 to late 2007, he worked in Silicon Valley, San Francisco and Washington DC as a freelance correspondent for Germany's broadcaster ZDF and the German newspaper Die Welt for which he wrote a weekly Silicon Valley column. 

In 1999, he developed and produced AudioWELT, and in 2003, he developed the concept for the new online-audio department of Die Zeit and initiated the founding of Audible.de, which is now part of Amazon Inc. His blog and podcast about the Tsunami catastrophe in Southeast Asia for ZDF, in early 2005, was nominated for the Grimme Online Award. In the four years since Blau joined Zeit Online as editor in chief in March 2008, Zeit Online has been repositioned, its website rebuilt from the ground up and its unique visits have almost quadrupled. In 2011, Zeit Online won the Grimme Online Award and two Lead Awards in Gold. Zeit Online is also the first and only German publication ever to have won the coveted Online Journalism Award of the American Online News Association for its data-journalism projects. Blau has recently been awarded Germany’s "Chief Editor of the Year 2011," being the first editor in chief of an online-only newsroom to have won this award. @wblau

Lorea Canales is a writer, journalist and lawyer from Mexico, and part of a new generation of global writers. Her novel Apenas Marta, published by Random House, has been called one of the best novels of the year, by Reforma newspaper, and is being translated into English. She earned a masters in law from Georgetown University in 1995, and went on to practice antitrust and electorate law in Washington DC and Mexico, before joining Mexico City’s largest newspaper, Reforma, as a legal correspondent in 1997. Canales taught law at ITAM University in Mexico City in 2000. Later that year she moved to New York, covering 9/11 and other news for magazines and newspapers in Mexico. She has been published in some of the most prestigious publications in Latin America including El Universal, Cambio, and Travesias. From 2003-2006 she edited for the New York Times Syndicate, their Spanish language news service. In 2006, she worked for Felipe Calderon’s successful presidential campaign in Mexico. In 2010, Canales received a masters in fine arts from New York University. Her translation of Carol Ann Duffy's poems will be published this spring by Bajo la Luna. She is working on her second novel, Corolario.

Before his current time at El Espectador, Cano-Correa served as political editor of El Tiempo and press secretary for the Colombian embassy in Washington DC. Cano-Correa started his career at El Espectador as a sports reporter in 1987, working up to U.S. correspondent before leaving to work at the embassy. He has received many editorial and journalism awards including the 2006 Simón Bolívar National Journalism Prize for "Journalist of the Year." Cano-Correa holds degrees from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, New York University, Universidad de los Andes, and the Internazionales Institute fur Journalism in Berlin.

Nuri M. Çolakolu, born in Izmir in 1943, graduated from Robert College and took his BA in diplomacy and international relations from the school of political sciences, Ankara. He has worked as a journalist, broadcaster, and media executive since 1969. He has held positions in Turkey and abroad, including TRT Foreign News Department, German News Agency DPA, Sweden STV, German WDR Radio, Aydinlik newspaper, BBC Turkish Section, Milliyet newspaper London bureau chief and news editor, and TRT general manager and chief advisor. Since 1991 he has been involved in launching or restructuring a number of private TV channels.  Right now he is in the process of launching his 10th channel – HTV: Health Channel. Çolakolu returned to Dogan Media Group in 2002 as CEO and president of CNN Turk. Here, he served as the general manager of CNN Turk, ANS International Production Company, CEO of Turkish Daily News, and helped launch Kanal D Romania. He is currently the president of Dogan Media International and advisor to the CEO of Dogan Media Group. He is also a board member of Kanal D Romania. He owns two private companies: InterMedia International Communication Corporation NMC New Media Company Television and Advertisement Corporation.  He has three children and two grandchildren.

Duncan Edwards is the president and CEO of Hearst Magazines International, an EVP of Hearst Magazines and vice chairman of the National Magazine Company (NatMag), Hearst’s publishing business in the U.K.  He is also a director of The Hearst Corporation. Edwards is responsible for Hearst’s magazine activities outside of the USA which includes operations in nearly sixty countries comprising wholly owned businesses, joint ventures, and licenses.  From 2005 to 2009, he was the chief executive of NatMag. He joined NatMag in 1989 and served in various executive roles, including publisher of Company magazine, director of business development and managing director. Edwards spent the early part of his career at Media Week Ltd.  He holds a dual honors degree in geography and politics from Sheffield University, is married with two boys and lives and works in New York.

For more than thirty years, Richard Gingras has led highly-regarded efforts in the development of online services and new media. Gingras is currently head of news products and head of Google+ programming at Google. Until July, 2011, Gingras was CEO of Salon Media Group which includes the acclaimed Salon.com, the blogging community OpenSalon.com, and the pioneering virtual community The Well. Gingras provided Salon's initial seed financing in 1995. Gingras was a strategic advisor to the senior team at Google (2007-2009), founder and CEO of Goodmail Systems, a founding VP of pioneering broadband provider @Home Network and SVP and general manager of Excite (1996-2001), led the design and development of Apple's online service eWorld (1993-1996), and was founder and CEO of MediaWorks (1987-1992), an early developer of news-agenting technology. He is also a strategic advisor and seed funder of numerous startups. In 1979, Gingras created the first interactive online news magazine - done in partnership with CBS, NBC, and PBS using interactive television technology known as broadcast teletext.

Now based in New York where she advises leading media companies on digital and international rights strategies, Janet Goldsmith was, for the last six years a partner and joint managing director of UK based research and advisory firm, Mediatique. Before joining Mediatique, she was managing director of Universal Studios Networks, where for five years she was responsible for the development and operation of Universal Studios’ digital television businesses in the UK. Martín Gonzalo Etchevers was born in Santa Rosa (La Pampa, Argentina) in 1969. In 1992 he earned his law degree at the University of Buenos Aires with honors. He graduated with a masters in business administration, and did postgraduate work in corporate communications and communications law. In 1993 he began working in the Clarín newspaper as fellow editor in the politics section. He was later appointed as the director of institutional relations, and in 2000 became manager of external communications. Presently, he is responsible for corporate communications of Grupo Clarín, including their representation in various domestic and international institutions and their corporate and social responsibility strategy. He has lectured in Argentina and abroad about the role of the media, right to information, freedom of the press and professional values in the newspaper industry. He is vice president of the Association of the Argentine Journalistic Entities (Asociación de Entidades Periodísticas Argentinas - ADEPA) and a member or the board of directors of the Inter American Press Association (IAPA).  Etchevers is a board member of the Citizen Power Foundation (Fundación Poder Ciudadano) and the Academic Council of the Master of Journalism Clarín (Consejo Académico de la Maestría en Periodismo de Clarín) and the University of San Andrés. He is also an advisor to various NGOs in Argentina including Escuelas del Bicentenário, Help Argentina and Fundación Ambiente y Recursos Naturales.

While Newsday’s Europe correspondent, his reports on “ethnic cleansing” in Bosnia-Herzegovina, including the first documented accounts of Serb-run concentration camps, won the Pulitzer Prize for international reporting (1993), the George Polk Award for foreign reporting, the Selden Ring Award for investigative reporting, the Hal Boyle award of the Overseas Press Club, the Heywood Broun Award of the Newspaper Guild, a special Human Rights in Media award of the International League for Human Rights, and other honors.  At Newsweek, in 2002, he was a cowinner of the Edgar Allen Poe award of the White House Correspondents’ Association, and in 2003, the National Headliners First Prize for Magazines and the Society of Publishers in Asia awards for excellence in magazines and reporting. He is the author of Banana Diplomacy (1988) and A Witness to Genocide (1993), and coeditor, with David Rieff and Anthony Dworkin, of Crimes of War: What the Public Should Know (second edition, 2007). His latest book, How We Missed the Story, Osama Bin Laden, the Taliban, and the Hijacking of Afghanistan, was published in February, 2008. Named one of “50 visionaries who are changing your world” by the Utne Reader, 2008; he was awarded honorary citizenship and a key to the city of Sarajevo in 2010. His home is in McLean, Virginia.

Under Ibargüen’s tenure, PODER expanded from three editions in the U.S., Mexico and Colombia, to six editions including a regional edition for Miami, Chile, and Peru. PODER Magazine has become a respected and reliable resource of information for and about Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic marketplace, and a bridge between the two communities. In 2007, he presided over the Green Forum in Miami, the first environmental forum dedicated to the Hispanic community in the U.S. with the participation of Al Gore and in association with National Geographic, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and Environmental Defense. Jennifer Juzaitis was appointed vice president, development for The Paley Center for Media in June 2007. Prior to the Paley Center, she was vice president for development and director of the Capital Campaign at the Museum of the City of New York. Juzaitis was responsible for raising $5,459,000 of the Museum’s $7,275,000 annual general operating budget and for directing the first phase of the Museum’s preservation and modernization campaign ($28,000,000).  In this role, she represented the Museum on the Government Affairs Committee of the New York City Cultural Institutions Group. Juzaitis' other development positions have included director, major gifts at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts; director of development at The Phillips Collection, in Washington, DC; and director of development for unrestricted giving at the National Building Museum, in Washington, DC. A New Jersey native, Juzaitis is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, where she began her career as assistant director of the San Antonio Public Library Foundation with the implementation of its $10,000,000 enrichment campaign to build a new central library with Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta and renovate of a number of branch libraries. Juzaitis is a trustee of the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function.

Wadah Khanfar is the cofounder the Sharq Forum and the former director general of the Al Jazeera Network. He began his career with the network in 1997, covering some of the world's key political zones, including South Africa, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He was appointed the chief of the Baghdad bureau, and later the network's managing director. In 2006, he became Al Jazeera's director general. During his eight year tenure at the helm, the network transformed from a single channel into a media network including Al Jazeera Arabic, Al Jazeera English, Al Jazeera Documentary, and the Al Jazeera Center for Studies. During this period, the Arab world witnessed historic transformation including the Arab Awakening. Khanfar, who resigned from the network in September 2011, has been named as one of Foreign Policy's"Top 100 Global Thinkers of 2011" as well as one of Fast Company's "Most Creative People in Business" of the year. Kirk Kraeutler is the deputy managing editor for news at The International Herald Tribune, responsible for overseeing the paper’s daily news report and enterprise coverage in coordination with The New York Times. Previously, he was assistant foreign editor at The New York Times responsible for coverage of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and South Asia. He helped lead the newspaper's coverage by a team of correspondents that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for international reporting in 2009. Kraeutler was named enterprise editor for the foreign desk of The New York Times in 2002.  He had previously worked as a copy editor and backfield editor on the foreign desk since 1995. Before joining The Times, Kraeutler served as assistant and then associate editor at Foreign Affairs journal, published by the Council on Foreign Relations, from 1989 until 1995.  He worked as an editor with The Associated Press at its headquarters in New York from 1987 until 1989. Born in Orange, N.J. on March 29, 1964, Kraeutler received a BA in political science and journalism from NYU in 1986.  In 1993 he received a masters degree in international affairs from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs.

Lemos is a computer engineer with specialization in distributed systems and super computing. He studied effective strategies for media companies at the Harvard Business School and is currently enrolled on the strategy and innovation program of the MIT's Sloan School of Management. Lemos founded and developed several startups and web 2.0 projects such as the BlogBlogs, the largest blog indexing platform for Portuguese-language blogs, sold to Abril in 2008. With more than eighteen years of experience in the computing industry he is responsible for Abril's digital operation and also for the development of Abril's digital strategy. Before joining Abril, he worked with research on distributed systems, health information systems, and electronic payment systems. He has a broad international experience leading or participating on projects in the USA, Argentina, Chile, France, and Latvia. He's a born and serial entrepreneur and he still codes as a hobby. He serves on the boards of several startups in Brazil and is also an Angel investor for digital startups. He loves technology, scuba diving, and sharks. and is learning to sail.

Rosalía Lloret is chief digital officer at PRISA News (publisher of El País, AS, Cinco Días and leading magazines such as Cinemania and Rolling Stone) and member of its executive board since September 2011. Previously, she was CDO and member of the board of Unidad Editorial, publisher of El Mundo. Before her incorporation to Unidad Editorial, Lloret worked as head of interactive media at RTVE and was a member of the executive board of the corporation since 2007. At this position Lloret was responsible for the creation of the new interactive media division of the Spanish public broadcaster, the launch of the revamped internet site (www.rtve.es), and the design of RTVE's strategy across online, mobile, and iTV. She has a degree in journalism (Universidad Complutense), and master degrees in global politics (London School of Economics), journalism (Escuela de El País) and international relations (Instituto Ortega y Gasset). Personally involved in the establishment and development of some of the pioneering Spanish websites, Lloret was head of content in the original team that designed Terra.es(Telefónica) and cofounder of Ya.com(Orange), where she held the position of chief content officer, as well as sitting on the executive board (1999-2004). Lloret began her professional career at the business paper Cinco Días and the magazine Autopista.

Maria Mann is director of international relations and business development for the European Pressphoto Agency, based in Frankfurt, Germany. She joined EPA in 2007 as senior managing editor. Previously, she was director of global current events at Corbis, in Paris. Before joining Corbis in 2003, Mann spent ninteen years with Agence France-Presse, first as director of photography for the Americas based in Washington, DC, setting up and directing photo operations throughout North and South America, and then as international photo editor in chief in Paris. Mann began her career at United Press International’s world headquarters in New York and has also been director of photography of the Toronto Sun. She was the founding chair of the National Press Photographers Association’s "Best of Photojournalism" competition, and has also judged numerous international photojournalism contests including Pictures of the Year, World Press, the United Nations Millennium/Yonhap contest, as well as national competitions in Austria, Belarus, and Lithuania.  Her most recent project was as editorial director of a two-year photographic project on the Ukraine, exhibited at the European Union in Brussels.  She is the recipient of the National Press Photographers’ Joseph Costa Award for “leadership and continuing service to photojournalists and photojournalism."

Mayne was in charge of the CosmoHD release, (the HD signal of the channel) which has not stopped growing since its launch. The general manager of Cosmopolitan Television has an extensive international experience in the areas of sales, marketing and new media. Mayne, 39, was previously vice president of sales, media distribution, Spain & Portugal at The Walt Disney Company, a position in which he could lead negotiations with the various channels of free TV and Pay TV platforms. Previously, he served as vice president of sales, Southern Europe at Warner Bros. from where he managed content distribution in five countries (Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey and Cyprus). With a degree in marketing from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores of Monterrey, Mayne also spent part of his career in the field of consumer products, with positions at Unilever and Nestle Mexico. He was also a founding partner of Webmedia Mexico, the first independent web design studio in that country.

He joined Yahoo! in 2005 in the platforms division where he led several open strategy initiatives such as RSS, social media, and the Developer Network. In 2008 he joined the Guardian in London to establish the Open Platform. McAlister is now building a new business at the Guardian called n0tice.com - an open public noticeboard platform for local communities.

Neil McIntosh was appointed as the deputy editor of The Wall Street Journal Europe in September 2011, with responsibility for the print and online editions of The Wall Street Journal in Europe. McIntosh joined The Wall Street Journal in January 2009 as the London-based launch editor of WSJ.com Europe in January 2009. Previously, he was head of editorial development for guardian.co.uk, where he launched the site's blog, audio and video output. He joined the Guardian newspaper as deputy editor of its technology section in 1999, having worked as a reporter and editor for a variety of newspapers, and became assistant editor of Guardian Unlimited in 2004. McIntosh started his journalism career at the Edinburgh Evening News in 1996. Born in Glasgow, McIntosh holds a masters in business administration from the Open University, and a BA in journalism from Napier University, Edinburgh.
