"Bringing together the leading actors, directors, and producers, along with new media pioneers who are forging revolutionary social change we offer media enthusiasts and fans rare and compelling insights into the media's power to entertain and engage," said Pat Mitchell, president and chief executive officer of The Paley Center for Media. "In the ever changing media landscape, The Paley Center for Media's fall schedule reflects the media's ability to both entertain and also explore global issues including civil rights, genocide, and democratic revolution."

The Paley Center for Media: New York Events

This season, the Paley Center welcomes the talents behind some on the most innovative, exciting new shows on television, remembers the leaders of the American Civil Rights Movement, and celebrates two important cultural milestones- the seventieth anniversary of John Lennon's birth, and the fiftieth anniversary of cinema vérité.

Events include screenings of the new network offering during our free Fall Preview weekend on September 11 and 12.  Also this fall, preview screenings and cast Q&A's of The Apprentice, series premiere of Blue Bloods, world premiere of Superman/Batman: Apocalypse in both Los Angeles and New York; Showtime's new hit The Big C, a celebration of Jersey Boys's fifth year on Broadway with a look back at the Four Seasons through television, and the thirtieth anniversary of the groundbreaking made-for-television film Playing for Time with Vanessa Redgrave.

As part of the seventh annual New York Musical Theatre Festival (http://www.nymf.org/), The Paley Center for Media is pleased to present an intimate conversation with legendary director Baz Luhrmann and a sampler of Broadway musicals adapted for television, including a special screenings of Bloomer Girl, followed by and interview with Bloomer Girl star Barbara Cook and Ernie Harburg (son of lyricist Yip Harburg).

Also in the fall, PaleyDocFest2010 returns with a slate of documentary premieres including Freedom Riders from American Experience, Space Tourist about the future of for-profit space travel presented in conjunction with the World Science Foundation, and Ferlinghetti, a powerful new film about the legendary beat artist. Docfest2010 will also screen two films about the life of John Lennon on what would have been his 70th birthday.  Nowhere Boy, a new docudrama starring Aaron Johnson and Kristin Scott Thomas, tells the story of his early years in Liverpool and the screening will be followed by a Q&A and musical performance by Lennon's first band members, The Quarreymen.  LENNONNYC is a new documentary by American Masters that chronicles his last years living in New York City.  A pivotal moment in the history of documentary film will also be a part of DocFest2010- the fiftieth anniversary of cinema vérité. Events include a screening of Primary followed by a panel with Robert Drew, Al Maysles, DA Pennebaker, and Richard Leacock, and a screening of A President to Remember: In the Company of John F. Kennedy followed by a panel with Drew and Alec Baldwin.

The DocFest2010 tribute to John Lennon will include This Boy: John Lennon in Liverpool, a gallery exhibit of rarely seen photos considered one of the first comprehensive look at John's development during his formative years in his beloved Liverpool curated by the Paley Center's Ron Simon and Beatles scholar Martin Lewis. Our DocFest2010 celebration will also include screenings of a selection of Beatles-related films and a series of cinema vérité screenings chosen by Robert Drew..

The Paley Center for Media: Los Angeles Events

The L.A. season kicks off with the annual PaleyFest: Fall TV Preview Parties, free public screening events that offer a sneak peek at the hottest new and returning shows of the fall season prior to their broadcast premieres. Starting September 9 - 15, this year's preview includes No Ordinary Family (ABC), The Defenders (CBS), Nikita (The CW), Running Wilde (Fox), and The Event (NBC). Each evening will be devoted to a single broadcast network and will begin with an introductory Q&A session with several members of cast and creative team of participating shows followed by multiple premiere screenings in their entirety.

In Los Angeles, the Paley Center continues to celebrate the icons and the popular by presenting several dynamic entertainment events including in-person appearances by Bob Newhart and Tony Orlando; the first Falcon Crest cast reunion since the series ended in 1990, and for the first time at the Paley Center, a live table read -- an upcoming episode of The Cleveland Show with the show's voice actors. Also there will be tribute to Lawrence Welk, the stars of his musical family, and his groundbreaking show. The Hamptons is coming to Beverly Hills as the Paley Center spends an evening with the cast and creative team of Royal Pains.

In the Bell Family Gallery, the Paley Center will present Art & Articfact's Rock, Pop & Fame featuring selected photographs by famed writer, director, producer and artist Stephen Verona, the ultimate Hollywood insider. For one month only starting September 8, this photographic exhibit offers a backstage pass into a world of pop culture, music, and film including portraits of such icons as Andy Warhol, Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, Johnny Cash, Henry Winkler, and Clive Davis.
