MAGIC COTTAGE, THE (TV)

Summary

One in this series of children's programs set in the magic cottage "in the land of make-believe, where anything can happen and most everything does, where storybook people come to life and tell you their adventures, and where every boy and girl can have fun, play games, and receive some beautiful presents." Host Pat Meikle opens the program by welcoming the young visitors for visiting on Christmas vacation, and gives them cookies. After presenting a Magic Cottage TV set badge offer from Cocoa Marsh, Meikle notes that the day is President Woodrow Wilson's birthday, and describes his efforts to establish the League of Nations. She is interrupted by Father Time, who complains the bashful Year 1951 doesn't want to take his place. Father Time's secretary, Miss Tempest (Meikle), tries to persuade him, and Father Time lets him glimpse at special minutes from the upcoming year. Next, Mr. Voice From Nowhere describes the presents that the show's guests will receive: an F.A. Whitney baby carriage, a Toni doll, a Round-up pistol and holster set, and a Teddy Jr. bear from Harvey and Jimmy Stewart. Meikle reminds viewers how to order the Magic Cottage TV set pin and reads the names of winners of the Resolution contest, each of whom wins a Silver Streak sled. She presents the winning entries from the drawing contest, which merit the Sparkle Plenty Islander Ukette, and encourages viewers to send in a drawing or letter. Standing at an easel, Meikle draws the next installment of Wilbur the Pigeon and his teacher Miss Duck, concerning the importance of knowledge, and Father Time sings to the tune of "Yankee Doodle." After another reminder to send in for the Magic Cottage pin, Meikle utters the show's magic words and exhorts the children not to waste minutes. Includes a premium offer from Cocoa Marsh.
