CAROL BURNETT SHOW, THE {"SUNSET BLVD" SKETCH} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy/variety programs starring Carol Burnett. This episode features guests Steve Lawrence and Dick Martin. Burnett begins the program by answering questions from audience members. In the first sketch, Burnett and Vicki Lawrence play clerks at competing airlines trying to lure a man (Martin) aboard their company's flight to Pittsburgh. Next, Steve Lawrence performs "Losing My Mind." In the next sketch, reporter Barbara Waters (Vicki Lawrence) interviews presidential adviser and swinging bachelor Henry Kissingame (Steve Lawrence). Then, in a sketch titled "As the Stomach Turns," a soap opera spoof, a housewife speaks with a soothsayer who forecasts several over-the-top guests arriving at her front door. Next, in a tribute to the Oscars, the cast spoofs nominated movies "Some Like it Hot" and "Tea and Sympathy." Then, Burnett and Steve Lawrence sing a medley of Oscar nominated songs which include "Zing a Little Zong," "They Can't Take That Away From Me," "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To," "The Tender Trap," "How About You?," "I've Got You Under My Skin," "I Will Wait for You," and "Something's Gotta Give."

Next, the cast spoofs Billy Wilder's "Sunset Blvd." with Steve Lawrence as screenwriter "Joey Gillis" and Burnett as washed-up screen legend "Nora Desmond." Next, Burnett sings a "Salute to Disney" with appearances by the Seven Dwarfs, Snow White (Vicki Lawrence), Pinocchio (Steve Lawrence), Mickey Mouse (Harvey Korman), Prince Charming (Martin), and the White Rabbit (Lyle Waggoner) as the songs "Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho," "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah," and "Someday My Prince Will Come" are played. Eventually, Burnett appears as Peter Pan, to the accompaniment of "When You Wish Upon a Star." Burnett ends the show with her trademark song, "I'm So Glad We Had This Time Together." Commercials deleted.
