FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA: LAND OF THE FREE (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas about a rambling peddler named John Freeborn who is witness to significant events in American history. In this program, which takes place in 1814, John Freeborn arrives in New England after escaping from a British ship where he was an impressed seaman for two years. He soon learns that the people of New England plan to secede from the union. Disgusted with the situation, Freeborn decides that he is going to move to the Indies. While on his way to meet his traveling companion, Jamie, Freeborn accidentally encounters President John Adams. Freeborn talks with President Adams about President Jefferson and the future of the nation. He also learns that Andrew Jackson is leading a fight against the people of the Indian Nation. Freeborn continues on his journey with Jamie, who is a Creek Indian. Jamie is sure that the Creek are fighting on the side of General Jackson. When he reaches his home, he discovers that his uncle has led his tribe against the Creek Indians and General Jackson. In fact, Jamie's uncle burned down Jamie's home. Soon afterward, however, Jamie and Freeborn meet up with General Jackson, and they finally learn the sad truth behind the white man's relationship with the Indians. Commercials deleted.
