Summary
One in this comedy series about a former R&B musician turned minister living in St. Louis.
Boyce is excited to be performing at a charity concert to raise money for the youth camp that he and Stamps used to attend when they were children. Lolli is upset about Stamps’s relationship with Kim and his unhygienic living habits, and does not want him to live with them anymore. She sends Boyce to go talk to him and ask him to leave, and he confronts him about it. Stamps admits that it is time for him to move out and get his own place. Barton calls Boyce and asks him to come down to the church to discuss something with the church elders. Kim offers to allow Stamps to move in with her, as they are now officially a couple. She callously tells her roommate Brenda to leave the apartment over the phone. Boyce arrives at the church, where the elders present him with a list of his song which they find too “risqué” to be performed, fearing that it would damage the church’s reputation and that it would place Boyce in violation of his morality clause. Faced with their complaints, Boyce struggles to censor his own music into a form more palatable to their taste.
Lolli discovers that Stamps is moving in with Kim and is highly upset, believing that Stamps is too immature and crude to be in a relationship with her. Boyce’s backup singers arrive, but he and Lolli find that one of them, Rita, is quite pregnant, although she claims that this is not the case. Boyce is concerned about this, but Lolli says it is too late to get another singer and that she can resolve the situation. Boyce tells Stamps that he cannot move in with Kim, much to his confusion. He discovers that the bus transporting his band has been waylaid in Iowa and will likely not make it to the concert on time. This forces Boyce to call “Crazy Rudy,” an eccentric music producer with the ability to put together a band on short notice. His problems are compounded when he discovers that the venue has been double-booked by accident. He goes down there and discovers that the stage is booked for a bar mitzvah, and manages to negotiate to secure the venue for his concert instead, even securing the services of the band.
Rita starts experiencing labor pains during a rehearsal with Lolli, forcing her to admit that she is pregnant. Meanwhile, Stamps and Kim confront Boyce and Lolli over Lolli’s attempts to break them up, causing a scene. Stamps finally exclaims that he and Kim love each other and that Lolli’s opinion will not change that. Everyone frantically rushes about trying to get to the show as Kim tries to help Rita deliver her baby. Boyce prepares for the show and finds Crazy Rudy there, as well as Bobby Ray. Together they perform the song “Nothin’ on You.” Commercials deleted.
