CELEBRITY FAMILY FEUD {PHIL MCGRAW VS. GARRY AND PENNY MARSHALL; KEVIN MCHALE VS. FRED WILLARD} (TV)
Summary
One in this long-running series of game/quiz programs in which celebrities and their families compete for a large cash prize – for charity – by guessing audience responses to various questions posed in questionnaires distributed beforehand.
In this program, host Steve Harvey welcomes Dr. Phil McGraw and his family, who are playing for the Greater Los Angeles Fisher House Foundation, and brother-sister team Penny and Garry Marshall and their relatives, who are playing for the Alzheimer's Foundation. Penny and Phil square off first and the McGraws opt to play, trying to determine the top responses to what one would fear seeing a doctor holding before performing a circumcision. The McGraws score 65 points before getting their third and final red "X"; when Penny fails to answer correctly, the McGraws win the round.
In the second round, Garry and Robin McGraw try to guess for what purposes a woman might like to have a second husband. Phil is dismayed when Robin names the #1 answer of "sex." The McGraws rack up 60 more points, but Penny steals the round by guessing "chores." Next, Jordan McGraw and sister Ronny Marshall Hallin try to guess what kinds of sea creatures might attack a nude male swimmer. The McGraws again play the round, though Phil is annoyed to find that a barracuda counts as the already-guessed "fish" and offers up "a dog." The McGraws reach 180 points before Penny again steals the round with "seal." In the final round, Jay McGraw and Scott Marshall try to guess the most popular completions to the prompt "it's raining …" The McGraws play the round, but Penny steals for the third time with "it's pouring, the old man is snoring" and wins the game.
In the "Fast Money" segment, in which 200 points are needed to win the grand $25,000 prize, Scott is given 20 seconds to come up with five "top answers" and scores 119. Tracy Reiner is then given 25 seconds to tackle the same questions without repeating any answers, and the Marshalls win the game with an impressive score of 243.
In the second half of the game, "Glee" actor Kevin McHale and his family play for the Musique charity against comedy legend Fred Willard and his family, who are supporting Actors and Others for Animals. Asked to name a "hot" food whose name could double for that of an exotic dancer, the Willards play the round; when McHale offers an incorrect guess, the Willards win the round with 86 points. Mary Willard and Shannon McHale-Horan try to guess by which orifices a "human bowling ball" might be grabbed and the McHales play the round, leaving an uncomfortable Kevin to offer the most unseemly answer; Fred steals the round with the tamer answer of "pockets."
Hope Mulbarger and Christopher McHale try to guess what a man might fear telling his wife that he has lost; though the Willards reach 178 points, Kevin steals the round with an answer of "keys." Mitch Mulbarger and Elizabeth McHale name the top products gleaned specifically from cows, and when the Willards opt to play the round, they win with a total of 474 points. In "Fast Money," Fred scores 124 points with his answers, and Hope pushes the team to a winning 208 with her first four answers, winning the $25,000 for their charity.
