UnREAL: FUTURE {SEASON ONE FINALE} (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series about the powerful women working behind the scenes on a reality dating television show.

Rachel sneaks away from Jeremy, leaving him a note explaining that she feels she doesn’t deserve him. She prepares to board the plane with Adam, who has similarly left Anna alone in bed, but at the last moment he says he cannot go. He feels that their relationship is inevitably self-destructive and that they cannot continue; he feels he must take responsibility for his own life. Rachel is upset at this and abruptly leaves Adam alone at the airport. The next morning he returns to the set and faces upbraiding from Quinn, who tells him that he shouldn’t have gotten mixed up with Rachel. He asks that they go to London to film the finale of the show, including the wedding. Quinn recommends that he apologize to Anna. He attempts to make amends with her, and although she has reservations about getting married on live television his attempts seem to placate her. Quinn discovers that her pitch meeting has been cancelled, much to her disappointment. She blames Chet for this, believing that he influenced Brad as retaliation for the rape charges she brought against him. They argue about his affair with Madison and she feels betrayed because she genuinely believed that they were in love with each other. Rachel finally comes in to work and offers to let her anger at Quinn go if she allows her to “produce the greatest ending in ‘Everlasting’ history” by deliberately sabotaging the wedding finale on-air. Quinn realizes that Rachel is motivated by her personal problems with Adam but sympathizes with her due to her own relationship issues; she also feels that this would be a way to get revenge on Chet in front of Brad.

Later Rachel finds Jeremy and apologizes to him. He lies and claims he did not read her note, much to her relief. They seem to make up, and filming for the final episode begins. Filming is interrupted when Britney unexpectedly returns and enters the set, claiming that Chet invited her there. Rachel and Madison scramble to keep her away while Quinn confronts Chet about her arrival; he claims that he wanted something “gonzo” for the final episode of the season, although he admits that his decision was most likely influenced by drugs. Quinn takes the opportunity to give his engagement ring back. Both are emotionally affected by this gesture, but choose to focus on producing the finale for the time being. Grace tries to seduce Adam of her own accord, and later Rachel tells Adam about Britney’s return and coaches him on what to say about it for the cameras. Rachel also claims that she is not bitter about what happened between them, much to his surprise. Adam says he is thinking of choosing Grace as the winner, but Rachel is confident that she can manipulate things to ensure that he picks Anna. Rachel confronts Grace and tries to dissuade her, claiming that she and Adam slept together last night. However, Grace is unconvinced, believing that Rachel is manipulating her for her own ends. Jeremy tells Adam that he knows about him and Rachel, and Adam feels that he has the right to be angry. However, Jeremy simply says that they “both dodged a bullet.”

The production moves to London, and Rachel and Jeremy are assigned a shared room. Filming begins on Adam’s family estate as the contestants meet his grandmother, the Duchess Camille Cromwell. Camille recommends that Adam marry Anna, as she feels that she is compliant and will be good in helping to produce heirs for the family, thus earning their favor. They film the proposal scene, and Adam ultimately decides to propose to Anna. After the filming ends Jeremy gets up with Rachel and seems as though he is about to propose to her in front of the entire crew. Instead, he announces her relationship with Adam in front of everyone, calling her a horrible person. She rooms with Quinn for the night, who tells her to get her act together. While preparing the church for the wedding, Rachel pulls Adam into a confessional booth and asks him about what changed his mind about running away with her. She has an emotional breakdown, as she fears that he might grow to genuinely love Anna despite their sham television marriage. He becomes frustrated and walks out on her. Rachel discovers that Anna was sitting in the adjoining booth and overheard Adam say that he does not love her and plans to annul their marriage; it turns out that the outburst was a ruse by Rachel to show Anna the truth about Adam.

Minutes before the filming of the live wedding, Quinn puts Chet in charge of the crew. Filming begins and Anna is nowhere to be seen. Rachel gets up in front of the camera and explains to everyone assembled that Anna is a “runaway bride.” Britney takes the opportunity to try to marry Adam on the spot, and claims that Chet brought her onto the show so that he could sleep with her. Quinn relishes the opportunity to point out Chet’s mistake in bringing her back in front of Brad. She then blackmails Brad into giving his support to her pitch if she fixes the increasingly out-of-control finale. She assumes control of the cameras and has security escort Britney out of the church. Quinn then rushes outside to intercept Anna, and as she leaves she gives an interview to the camera, claiming that she cannot be with Adam because he is a philanderer. Rachel discovers from Adam that Quinn lied to him about her having a mental disorder. Later she confronts Quinn about this, and she admits the truth but feels that Rachel should be grateful that she was extricated from the entire situation. However, they both feel that they went too far with their actions and plan to avoid such an eventuality in the next season. They both hesitantly tell each other that they love each other. Jeremy visits Rachel’s mother and claims that she is “sick again.” Commercials deleted.
