LEAVE IT TO BEAVER: BEAVER'S DANCE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about the Cleaver family -- Ward and June and their two sons, Wally and Theodore, known as "the Beaver."

Beaver is invited to a cotillion for children, and Wally is convinced that Beaver will react poorly to the invitation, as it requires him to get dressed up and use social grace. Ward seems to concur with Wally’s feelings, but June believes that it would be good for Beaver and asks that they all try to convince him that night at dinner to go to the dance. They bring it up to Beaver, and he absolutely refuses to go. Ward and June insist that Beaver attend the dance and does not accept Beaver’s refusal. The day of the dance arrives and Larry Mondello arrives at the Cleaver household with his mother; he is to attend the dance as well. Beaver and Larry attend the cotillion and quickly find themselves bored and uncomfortable. They dread that they have five more of them to attend each week, and Beaver vows that he will never attend another one.

On the next Saturday Beaver stalls for as long as he can to avoid attending the dance. On the way there, Larry proposes that they simply not go and convince their parents that they went. They decide to hide behind a barn to avoid attracting attention, and while there they encounter a girl on horseback who argues with them. She offers to let them ride her horse and they do so, although they get quite dirty on the ride. They return to the Cleaver house, and Wally, June, and Ward become quite suspicious of Beaver and Larry’s disheveled state. They manage to deduce what Beaver and Larry did, although they try to deny it. Finally Beaver tells the truth, and Ward is quite disappointed that they lied about their whereabouts. Ward tries to explain to Beaver that sometimes parents have to make their children do things they don’t want to do for their own good. Includes commercials.
