KNOTS LANDING: ABBY'S CHOICE (TV)
Summary
One in this night-time drama serial, spun off from the series "Dallas," about the residents of the small southern California community of Knots Landing. In this episode, Abby anxiously waits for her test results, which will determine if she is a suitable kidney donor for her niece Diana, and complains to Gary that Karen only asked her for the favor to "show her up." Val channels her stress into baking, and Lilimae worries that Abby is unlikely to be unselfish enough to do the surgery. Laura is cold with Richard, suggesting that Abby has too much control within their business, and confides to Ciji that their marriage is "a joke." Kenny runs into Andy and is disturbed to hear a rumor that Jeff Munson may take over the record label. Abby learns that she is in fact a match for Diana, and the doctor explains the relatively safe procedure, also detailing the lifetime dialysis that Diana will need without the transplant. Overwhelmed, Abby declares that she cannot go through with it, but when she returns home to Gary, she expresses her doubts and asks for his advice. She then visits Diana, who apologizes for putting her in the position of choosing and says she is reluctant to take anything from her, and Abby relents.
Gary assures Kenny that the rumor about Munson is untrue, and Karen visits Abby as she prepares for the surgery, though Abby coldly informs her that she is doing it for Diana, not for her, and sends her away. Diana's brother visits and they meet her team of surgeons, and at home, Ciji plays with Laura's infant son, and they bond as she confesses her desire for a family of her own. Karen expresses her worries to Val, recalling the trauma of Sid's death and doubting that she could handle losing her daughter as well. Mack visits Diana and she thanks him for supporting her mother during the unhappy time, and Chip visits as well to share a romantic moment with her. Abby and Diana are then taken into surgery and the others wait for news, with Val kindly reaching out to Gary about his concern over Abby. Chip attempts to win over Diana's family while also juggling his plans with Ciji, who is disappointed when he cancels on her on her birthday. Abby's daughter Olivia arrives at the hospital in some distress, and Val comforts her, assuring her that her mother will be fine. The surgery goes well and the families are relieved, and Abby awakens with Gary by her side. Laura surprises Ciji with a birthday cake, and Karen silently thanks a sleeping Abby for her generosity.
