KNOTS LANDING: SUICIDAL {TENTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The tenth-season premiere in this night-time drama serial, spun off from the series "Dallas," about the residents of the small southern California community of Knots Landing. In this episode, Bobby and Betsy find Val unconscious, having been forced by Jill to take a fatal overdose. Mack and Karen hurriedly pack their things, still debating about calling the police on Manny. Mack visits Frank, who asks about his charter plane, and Karen leaves Meg with Greg "until it's over," and he worries about the effect that all the changes will have on her. Frank spots the twins playing unsupervised and rushes inside the home to find Val, then taking her to the hospital. Karen buys an explosive detonator from a shady character, and upon learning that Manny is holding Paige and Andrew captive until he is allowed to unload his drugs safely, Gary suggests that they employ "thugs" of their own to recover them. He is then shocked to learn of Val's so-called suicide attempt and hurries to the hospital, offering to pay her bills when he learns that she has no insurance. Karen panics when Manny fails to call, wondering if he will simply unload his boat without giving them a chance to recover the kids. Gary calls Jill from the hospital, and she is greatly disturbed to learn that Val was found in time and saved.
Mack searches for Paige and Andrew in Mexico and is finally led to them by a young girl, but Manny is there as well and threatens him, promising to kill him as well as the kids if Karen interferes with the boat delivery. He calls Karen and allows her to speak to Mack and overhear his beating, and she admits to Abby that she longs to kill Manny in return. Abby tells a shocked Olivia about Val, and Greg spends quality time with Meg, watching a campaign on TV and pondering a return to politics. Mack is tied up and recognizes Harold, Manny's nephew and Olivia's nefarious ex, and he begins to needle him about his mistreatment of her and his criminal actions under his uncle's orders. Jill visits Val in the hospital and, when alone with her, attempts to finish her off for good, though Val's elderly roommate overhears everything. Mack manages to free himself and attacks Manny, but Manny recovers his gun. Just as he is about to kill Mack, however, he is shot from behind by Harold, and Mack demands to see his children. Commercials deleted.
