GROWING PAINS: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The pilot in this comedy series about the adventures of the Seaver family of Long Island, headed by psychiatrist dad Jason and reporter mom Maggie. In this episode, Jason tells Maggie about an article he read about keeping relationships "frisky," and Maggie overhears Mike and his friend talking about the "House of Sweat." Carol explains that they are talking about a dance club for those who are under twenty. After the kids rush off to catch the bus for school, Jason tells Maggie that if she starts to feel frisky she can find him in his office. Then Ben returns to the house, and Maggie talks to him about the reason that she has decided to go back to work. Later that day, Mike asks his dad for permission to go to the "House of Sweat," and after some discussion, Jason consents. Maggie is furious when she finds out where Mike is, but Jason tells her that Mike needs some freedom in order to learn responsibility. Then Jason informs her that there is champagne in their bedroom, and satin sheets on the bed. As Maggie goes upstairs to change, Jason receives a call from the police because Mike has been arrested for underage driving. Maggie, Jason, and Ben go to get Mike, and when they return home, Jason has a talk with Mike. When Mike explains his side of the story, Jason says that he wants them to have a trusting relationship. Then Jason tells him about the time that he and his friends got in trouble for driving around mooning people. After Mike leaves to go to bed, Jason decides that he's going to "moon" Mike, but he ends up mooning Maggie instead. Includes commercials, promos, and an ABC News Brief with Dan Cordtz.
