BOB NEWHART SHOW, THE: DEATH OF A FRUITMAN (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy programs about the personal and professional life of a Chicago psychologist. In this episode, Bob's therapy group vents its hostility toward Mr. Gianelli, an unpleasant, frequently truant member who abuses the others when he does show up, singling out the nebbishy Mr. Peterson for particularly nasty treatment. Bob finally expels the troublemaker from the group, only to be informed at the next meeting that Gianelli, a fruit dealer, has died in a bizarre zucchini accident. The group holds an unhinged wake at Bob's apartment, where everyone's attitude toward the dead man softens to the point of maudlin sentimentality; Ironically, Mr. Peterson is the hardest hit, crushed by the loss of his hated tormentor.
