ROCKFORD FILES, THE: THE KIRKOFF CASE {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere episode of this series of dramas about the cases of private detective Jim Rockford, an ex-convict who was imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit and who tends to get involved in cases his self-protective instincts tell him to avoid. In this episode, Rockford is hired by Larry Kirkoff, the not-exactly-grief-stricken heir to the large estate of his recently murdered parents. Kirkoff wants Rockford to find their killer in order to clear his own name, as the police have indicted him for the killings, but are still looking for evidence with which to try him. The plot thickens when Rockford is set up by an attractive young woman named Tawnia, who drugs him after inviting him to her apartment, and is interrogated by her cowboy friend, Travis, who holds him at gunpoint when he awakens. Rockford learns that Tawnia was having an affair with the late Mr. Kirkoff, and Travis with Mrs. Kirkoff; the two have joined forces to insure that Larry is brought to trial. Later, when Rockford digs deeper into the case, he is kidnapped, taken to a warehouse, and beaten by a band of thugs, whose raspy-voiced leader tells him to stop his investigation--or he'll be killed.
