X-FILES, THE: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of science fiction dramas about FBI agents Mulder and Scully and their investigations into "unsolvable" cases involving paranormal phenomena. In this episode, a young woman is found mysteriously killed in a northwest Oregon forest. Meanwhile, Agent Dana Scully finds herself assigned to work with Agent Fox Mulder, a "spooky" agent laboring on a special, unassigned project called the X-Files, investigations into paranormal activity. Immediately, Mulder asks Scully to examine the death of the Oregon woman, who was found with two distinct -- and unexplained -- marks on her lower back. Mulder furthers explains that the Oregon woman is the fourth member of her high school class to have been mysteriously killed. The next day, Scully and Mulder head to Oregon where they immediately find some unexplained phenomenon. Exhuming the third victim's body, Mulder is amazed at what he finds -- the corpse doesn't appear to be human. Examining the body further, Scully finds a grey metallic implant inside the corpse's nose. After examining a still-living classmate, Peggy O'Dell, also with the two unexplained marks on her back, Mulder posits a belief that the four dead clasmates were abducted by aliens. Investigating the woods where the death occurred, Scully and Mulder find the sheriff already there, refusing to allow them on the property. Then, while driving, Mulder and Scully see a burst of white light, after which Mulder notes that nine minutes have been "lost" since he last looked at his watch. That night, Mulder tells Scully about the death of his sister and how he came to be an investigator of paranormal phenomenon. Later, the pair hear that O'Dell has been killed. Mulder and Scully report to the scene, then return to their motel -- containing all of their collected evidence -- which is engulfed in flame. Also, another young classmate, Theresa Nemman -- the local medical examiner's daughter -- approaches Mulder and Scully, explaining how she keeps mysteriously finding herself in the woods. All the evidence leads Mulder back to a near-comatose man, Billy Miles, who Mulder thinks has somehow been bringing his former classmates to the forest. Under hypnosis, Billy explains that aliens abducted him and his fellow classmates during a graduation celebration three years earlier. Reporting back to FBI headquarters, Scully's superiors act skeptical of her claims -- but all may not be what it seems. Commercials deleted.
