MTV NEWS: TRUE LIFE: I'M LIVING IN IRAQ {OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM} (TV)
Summary
One in this documentary series which showcases real-life stories of young people. This documentary, filmed in November 2003, follows the United States' efforts to bring liberation and democracy to Iraq. The story is told through several vignettes focusing on U.S. soldiers and Iraqi people stationed and living in Baghdad. In the first one, Sgt. Stephen R. Cook talks about life back in California and his duties in Iraq. His interview is interrupted by gunfire outside, and Cook's unit is forced to go investigate the "bad guys." In the next story, 2nd Lt. Sandy L. Sizemore, a nurse at the Combat Support Hospital, works in the I.C.U. treating both an American soldier and an Iraqi civilian, both injured by the fighting. Next, Muthana, a 22-year-old film student, talks about how he was forced to be an engineer by Saddam Hussein's regime, and only was allowed to follow his dreams after the dictator's fall. He gives a tour of his antiquated film school. Then, SPC Eric Christ shows off his barracks and his roommates, displaying the Purple Heart he received for an injury suffered during combat. Finally, Zaid, an Iraqi journalist, pursues a story about the local police force. He shows the gun he must carry for protection, while discussing how Hussein killed four of his cousins. The documentary ends with a quick recap of where each person is today.
