And the Winner Is...: Why We Love the Oscars

Thursday, March 12, 2026
4:00 pm
The Paley Museum, 25 West 52 Street, NYC
Curator: Jason Lynch

While the first Academy Awards were handed out in 1929, the ceremony was not actually televised until 1953. Ever since then, the telecast now known as the Oscars has become among the most-watched entertainment programs each year, thanks to its unbeatable combination of big stars and unforgettable moments. Join curator Jason Lynch as he traces the evolution of the Oscar ceremony and looks back at the most memorable—as well as some of the most infamous—Academy Awards moments of all time, curated from the Paley Archive.
